About Epilepsy Action
Epilepsy Action exists for every single one of the 456,000 people in the UK who have epilepsy. From all age groups and all walks of life, people with epilepsy can rely on us for support, advice and campaigns to build better future.
We do this by -
- Providing the Epilepsy Helpline (which is contactable by phone, text, email and web) for anyone who needs advice or information
- A comprehensive website with thousands of pages of information about all aspects of epilepsy
- Running an online community, forum4e to give people with epilepsy a safe and exclusive environment to talk about their experiences
- Branches across the UK with local support meetings
Epilepsy can strike anyone at any time. With over 40 types of epilepsy, diagnosis can sometimes be complex and require specialist consultants and care, which can often mean a ‘postcode lottery'. Epilepsy Action is fighting to make sure every person with epilepsy has access to specialist healthcare.
We do this by -
- Campaigning to persuade the government and NHS to improve specialist medical care
- Working with healthcare providers to ensure people with epilepsy are represented
- Funding the placement of Sapphire epilepsy specialist nurses to provide specialist care, including support and practical help.
We want to live in a society where everyone understands epilepsy and where attitudes towards the condition are based on fact, not fiction
We do this by -
- Running education programmes in schools and community groups
- Raising awareness of epilepsy in the media
- Running conferences and events to inform and educate
- Campaigning for an end to stigma
